Fred Schmidt
Renowned Australian artist, Fred Schmidt resides in South Australia but makes regular trips to Tasmania to sketch the landscape. He is particularly interested in the quality of light in Tasmania.
Schmidt began his career as a full-time artist in 1987. Since then he has had regular successful exhibitions on the mainland of Australia and in Tasmania. His work is held in many private and public collections including the Burnie Regional Gallery in Tasmania, Darwin City Council, AMP Society and Telstra. Schmidt is not an artist who follows trends and fads but has learned to trust his own instincts which have often seen him at odds with contemporary art opinion and academic notions. His latest work displays his proficiency in watercolour landscape painting and is a testament to his belief that sound drawing skills are the foundation of competent painting.
