Wilkinson |
A visit to the "Art of Botanical Illustration" exhibition in 1996 inspired Wilkinson's pursuit of botanical art. She subsequently studied the craft under Jenny Phillips-Crompton of the Melbourne School of Botanical Art, who is regarded as one of the world's leading teachers in this field.
In 2001 Wilkinson won first place in the 'exotic' category at the Botanical Art Society of Australia's annual exhibition, as well as the People's Choice award at the same exhibition.
Her work is represented in the Victorian State Collection of Botanical Art held at the Herbarium in Melbourne, Australia.
Wilkinson mixes her own colours from three basic pigments which do not fade or change colour. Each painting is a finely detailed and accurate representation of a live specimen. She is particularly interested in painting rare and unusual plants.
